From the opening voice-over of Stacy Peralta’s f***ing amazing doc Dogtown and Z-Boys, as narrated by Sean Penn. While it’s describing a certain part of Santa Monica, I think it perfectly encapsulates the whole of Southern California, a place so maddening, so complicated, and so wonderful that it often defies description.
