Johnny Case in Wonderland . . . hopelessly adrift in popular culture

This week Bedford Falls University alumnus Chris Kitchens came back to campus to screen his latest film, Wyoming Triumph, which he co-directed along with his fellow alumnus Sam Pope.  It’s a beautiful film and it is incredibly cool to see a student who was in the first filmmaking class I ever taught now earning his living making movies via KGB Productions, the company he and Sam started from scratch themselves.  There’s no correlative here, as I didn’t really have a good understanding about teaching filmmaking at the time (10+ years ago), but I remember Chris’ work very clearly and it was obvious even then that he was going to go places, and I’m not the least bit surprised that he and Sam are starting to make noise and turn heads.  And they aren’t the only ones.  That first wave of Bedford Falls filmmakers is definitely making headway in the industry and it’s just a matter of time before that wave breaks wide and others follow in its wake.  And that our alums are willing to come back to Bedford Falls U. and share their work with our current students and discuss their experiences in the industry is only going to perpetuate this cycle of creative success, about which I couldn’t be happier.  Most weeks I’m pretty sure my job is awesome.  And then there are weeks like this one, during which I know it is.
